Actions speak louder than words

Faith In ActionThis is the fourth year that my church—Living Springs—has set aside an October Sunday as Faith In Action Sunday.

Why do we do this? Because we recognize that our neighbors don’t care about our theology or our values until they can SEE them. Actions speak louder than words.

Here are some of the ways we walked the talk last Sunday:

Faith
We volunteered at South Suburban Humane Society, helping staff care for abandoned animals.
Faith
We wrote letters to college students and members of the military, and we sent them in boxes of homemade goodies.
Faith
We visited a local rehabilitation center to play bingo with the residents and joke around with them.
Faith
We designed cards and crafted encouraging messages to people we don’t even know. These cards will be delivered to hospice patients by an organization called Kids Who Care.
Faith
We put together care packages for teachers at a local school.

None of these “actions” required any special talent, or a lot of money, or that much time. They were all simple, small ways to brighten someone’s day and make life a little nicer.

And I think it’s fair to say that we received as much blessing as we gave!
